Dr. Sierra Ferguson is a Research Scientist in the Planetary Science Directorate at the Southwest Research Institute. She is broadly an expert in planetary geology and the links to geophysical and dynamical problems. Much of her research has focused on conducting mapping studies of the impact craters on Saturn’s satellites. Her work is utilized in evaluating the origins and evolution of these satellites. Her work aims to connect the observable surface geology with orbital and deeper interior processes within icy and ocean worlds. In support of this, she is additionally trained in the creation of digital terrain models (DTMs) and has created data products for bodies across the Solar System, spanning many different instruments. She is currently involved in the NASA-PRISM CLPS payload DIMPLE as the Instrument Scientist for the DIMPLE Vision System. She has been a member of the Geologic Mapping Subcommittee through NASA’s MAPSIT Assessment Group. She currently serves as an Associate Editor for the American Geophysical Union’s (AGU) Journal for Geophysical Research: Planets. Dr. Ferguson received her B.S. in Physics and Astronomy (2016) from Northern Arizona University and her Ph.D. in Geosciences from the School of Earth and Space Exploration at Arizona State University (2021).
