About

Luke Dones is a Technical Advisor in the Science Directorate at Southwest Research Institute’s Solar System Science and Exploration Division. Dr. Dones’s research focuses on the dynamical evolution of small bodies in our Solar System, especially comets, and the impact history of planetary satellites. He served as an associate for the Voyager 2 Imaging Team at the encounters with Uranus and Neptune and was a member of the Imaging Team of the Cassini mission to Saturn. Born in San Antonio, Texas, Dones received a B.A. in Physics from Harvard (1980) and a Ph.D. in Astronomy from the University of California, Berkeley (1987). He was chair of the American Astronomical Society’s Division on Dynamical Astronomy in 2017 and 2018.
