Dr. Kenny Kenny is a newly minted heliophysicist/solar astronomer, having earned their doctorate from CU Boulder’s Department of Astrophysical and Planetary Sciences in December 2025. As a graduate student (advisor: Dr. Craig DeForest), Kenny developed a novel image processing technique for Wide-field Imager for Parker Solar Probe (PSP/WISPR) data. This technique leverages PSP’s unique position — within the solar corona — to infer local, three-dimensional plasma density structure. As a postdoctoral researcher at SwRI, Kenny will continue this WISPR-based tomography research. Additionally, they will contribute to the PUNCH mission, initially updating and expanding upon existing documentation on data products and the data reduction pipeline. In the future, Kenny hopes to utilize PUNCH data as part of their solar radio astronomy research. Kenny has been PI on three different observing programs with the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA) to measure Faraday rotation (FR) through the corona and solar wind and hopes to incorporate polarized image data from PUNCH into these FR experiments — to more sensitively measure the coronal magnetic field along lines of sight from radio sources to the VLA.
