Dr. Muñoz-Jaramillo is an expert in the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to science and education.   He was the project scientist for NASA’s Surya foundation model in heliophysics and has worked on a wide range of applications of AI to Heliophysics, including space weather forecast, instrument calibration, pattern finding and pattern classification, integration of physics with AI models, and more recently, training and using foundation models.

Dr. Muñoz-Jaramillo is also a highly proficient ideation facilitator and has extensive experience in non-verbal ideation, idea conception, and helping large groups design and plan complex solutions.  As part of this journey, he designs educational experiences to teach people from all backgrounds the basis and best practices for using AI in scientific contexts.  This includes the SEARCH project (mob-coding as a means of knowledge equalization), the Surya workshop series (from zero to hero in designing and training AI pipelines in one week), and the ButterflAI project (leveraging AI assistants to produce impactful scientific results with graduate, undergraduate and high-school students).
