Location of asteroid (7887) Bratfest
during the 2020 Global Bratfest on
2020 September 26
Unfortunatey, asteroid Bratfest will not be visible
in the night sky for the 2020 event.
It will set in the WSW just ahead of the Sun (see
sky chart below, with the location of Bratfest marked).
The 14-km-sized object will be at a distance
from Earth of 3.8 AU and have mag 17.8.
But our event will be overseen by ALL SIX naked-eye
planetary bodies: five planets and an 80%-full Moon.
Don't forget to look up during the event and
remember that, although we are all separated, and
besides sharing brats, corn, and cheesecake, we
can all share the same sky at the same time.
First, Mercury, at mag -0.04, will set almost due WSW about an hour after
sunset. If you have a clear view to the WSW, it will only be a few
degrees above the horizon.. Look about a half-hour after sunset.
Binocs will help.
And soon after sunset, you will see in the southern
sky these objects (listed from west-to-east):
Jupiter mag -2.4
Saturn mag 0.5
Moon
Then
Mars at mag -2.4 will rise in the east at about 8 pm
followed by
Venus, at a blazing mag -4.1, rising in the ENE about 3:30 am.
