Department Adds Videoconferencing Capability

The Department recently installed a Polycom ViewStation 512 videoconferencing system that provides the ability to do videoconferencing over the Internet as well as an ISDN connection. The system supports high-quality video up to 30 frames per second enabling Department scientists and staff to interact with colleagues at remote sites. Because it uses an Internet connection, the system is quite mobile, allowing users the flexibility of holding conferences anywhere in the Department that has a network connection. The the system is on a portable TV rack presently located in our small conference room but can support conferences in our large conference room or in the privacy of one's office.
