Kyle C. Augustson is a research scientist in the Department of Solar and Heliospheric Physics. Augustson specializes in analytical and numerical approaches to fluid dynamical systems: from stellar plasmas to hydrological particle-laden flow. He is known for his work in stellar dynamos, wave dynamics in rotating stars and planets, and magma ocean dynamics. He helped establish techniques for solving 2D and 3D eigenvalue problems in curvilinear coordinates. Augustson holds a B.Sc. in physics, mathematics and computer science from Oregon State University, as well as a M.Sc. and Ph.D. from the University of Colorado in Astrophysical and Planetary Sciences.
