Nice Model (cont).
The Nice model can explain many of the Solar System's characteristics for the first time:
- Giant Planet Orbits:
- Reproduces the giant planets' semi-major axes, eccentricities and inclinations.
- Jupiter and Neptune Trojans:
- Nice model reproduces number and orbits of Trojans fairly well.
- Primitive and Active Asteroids :
- We now know of 4 'comets' on stable asteroid orbits.
- Some primitive asteroids that look like extinct comets.
- We find that objects get embedded in the asteroid belt.
- Kuiper belt:
- Nice model reproduces number and orbits of Kuiper belt objects.
- Irregular Satellites :... (Nesvorny et al. 2006)
- Disk particles can get trapped during planetary encounters.
- Matches the observed orbits very well.
