The Kuiper belt has a very complex structure, which was formed during its primordial evolution.
Any model therefore must explain: (Ignoring the extended scattered disk/ inner Oort cloud)
- Objects in the mean motion resonances (MMRs) with Neptune.
- 4:3, 3:2, 5:3 7:4, 2:1, and 5:2 (Chiang et al.)
- roughly 10% of population (biases corrected). (Trujillo et al.)
- The Edge near the 1:2 MMR. (Allen et al.; Trujillo & Brown)
- Trujillo & Brown argue that number density must fall off faster than r-11.
(BTW: The inner edge is due to the ν8 secular resonance.)
