Solar Maximum vs. Minimum: Surface Magnetic Field
Then and Now: MDI images of the longitudinal magnetic field component in May 1996 (solar minimum) and December 2000 (solar maximum). Weighted-average Zeeman splitting of the Ni I 6768Å photospheric absorption line is used to measure the field.
