Solar Group to build Next Generation Imaging Spectrograph for NASA
Sounding Rocket Program
Department of Space Studies solar researchers, led by Don Hassler,
have been awarded a NASA $1.5M grant to build an innovative, new imaging spectrograph to be
launched in 2006. The instrument is called RAISE, for the Rapid
Acquisition Imaging Spectrograph Experiment. RAISE, which will probe the
mysteries of the solar corona, will fly on a Black-Brandt sounding rocket,
to obtain the highest-ever time resolution spectroheliograms of dynamics in the
Sun's atmosphere.
