The science team and senior managers of NASA's New Horizons Pluto-Kuiper Belt exploration mission will meet February 6 and 7 at SwRI's Department of Space Studies in Boulder, Colorado.
New Horizons is now deep in its design phase, with its construction phase to begin in the next 12 months. According to plan, New Horizons will launch in early 2006, streaking to a Jupiter system flyby in March 2007 and a Pluto encounter as early as the summer of 2015. New Horizons is a joint project of SwRI® and the Johns-Hopkins Applied Physics Lab. Four other institutions are mission partners, as are three NASA centers (Goddard, Kennedy, and JPL).
