A host of Mars-related scientific and project activities have geared up within the Department in the past year. These include SwIM internal research projects centered on Martian craters and structural geology involving researchers Drs. Chapman and Merline, Mars atmospheric dynamics activities being brought into the department by Dr. Scot Rafkin, and Mars ultraviolet investigation planning centered on Dr. Alan Stern's involvement in the ESA Mars Express SPICAM UV spectrometer to be launched in mid-2003.
