SwRITM Researchers
Probe the Origin of the Late Heavy Bombardment
In a paper published in Icarus (vol. 151, p. 286, June 2001), SwRI scientists Hal
Levison, Luke Dones, Clark Chapman, and Alan Stern, along with
Martin Duncan of Queens University and Kevin Zahnle of NASA-Ames
investigate the role of Uranus and Neptune in the Late Heavy Bombardment.
The authors show that current constraints on the LHB are consistent with
the hypothesis that the LHB was triggered by the formation of Uranus
and Neptune.
