GERMAN POTATO SALAD info
Germain Potato Salad has been a mainstay of Bratfest since the
beginnings and continues today.
Some of you may remember, as a kid, facing the truly
horrifying presentations in the church basement during
the church-lady potlucks. As it was for the green jello infused
with chopped celery and carrots, some of these potato
salads were essentially inedible. Thus, there is a
wide range in German potato salads from spectacular to
awful. I guess that is the "luck" in potluck.
Here, we present what is probably one of the best we
have served over the years at the Fest. It comes
to us from Maria Banks.
Grandma Kruse Bavarian Potato Salad
I know, I know, this has no "quantities" listed. Quit whining and just
make it. It will be fine. It is said to add things "to taste" anyway.
And Maria insists that this be made without modification. She will
kill me, but we have added a small bit of sugar and some fried,
crumbled bacon from time to time. I don't think it does it harm,
but suit yourself. Make it according to Maria's directions at first,
and experiment with modifying some other time.
